Keep On

Have you ever felt like you just didn’t have anything left?  I was feeling like this lately when I heard this song.  It spoke to me in so many different ways!  I realized I’d been putting other things ahead of time with God and what he might be teaching me.  I was also just worn out from some daily struggles and feeling depressed.  This song encouraged me and reminded me to give my worries and sadness to God.  In our own strength, we’re not able.  But Got is able.  I hope in difficult times you remember to draw near to Him.  You are not alone.

Lift up your eyes

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:

Who created all these?

He who brings out the starry host one by one

and calls forth each of them by name.

Because of his great power and mighty strength,

not one of them is missing.

Isaiah 40:26 NIV

Drawing of night sky

I came across this Bible verse recently, and it made me think of the song Your Love Oh Lord by Third Day.  Something about hearing that song gives me peace.  You can listen to the song here:

Some of the lyrics, from Psalm 36:

And I will lift my voice to worship you my king

And I will find my strength in the shadow of your wings

Your Love Oh Lord reaches to the heavens

Your faithfulness stretches to the skies

May you find strength in the shadow of His wings today, and above all the peace that only He can give.

but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

Well it has been a while since I have been able to blog.  I missed it!  I’ve been unable to, partly for fun reasons and partly for sad reasons.  I’ve been travelling and haven’t had much time or internet access.  First, I was travelling in Maui, which was wonderful.  So please don’t feel too sorry for me :-)  I promise I’m not stalking you, Canadian Hiking Photography!  We had planned our trip before you went!

Then while in Maui we got some sad news that my grandma passed away.  She had not been doing well the past couple of years, so in a way it’s a blessing.  I believe she’s in a better place now.   She also lived to be 93 so that was a blessing.

I had been meaning to post this photo before, and now it has a little more special meaning.  My grandma had had a lot of pain due to broken bones for quite some time.  I was talking to my mom before the funeral, and she mentioned she thought of this song for her.  Now she is free!

So, please listen to “I’ll Fly Away”.  I hope it gives you hope about our future life in heaven, where there is no more suffering.

I’ll Fly Away

Here’s my heart

Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it; Seal it for Thy courts above.

This is a line from the hymn Come Thou Fount, written by Robert Robinson and adapted by many singers over time.  This version is performed by Jadon Lavik on one my favorite CDs, Roots Run Deep, his first hymns album.  If you haven’t before, check out this CD.  It has lot’s of good traditional hymns and the music is very soothing.  And…I promise I’m not marketing for him :-)

Anyway, here are some lyrics from the song:

Here by Thy great help I’ve come

And I hope by Thy good pleasure

Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger

Wandering from the fold of God

He to rescue me from danger

Interposed His precious blood

Let Thy goodness like a fetter

Bind my wandering heart to Thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it

Prone to leave the God I love

Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it

Seal it for Thy courts above

If you’d like to listen, here’s Come Thou Fount performed by Jadon Lavik:

When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us and testifies that we belong to God.

And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (ESV)

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary on the passage explains,  “Sealing indicates ownership and security.  The Holy Spirit is a guarantee, the down payment that there is more spiritual blessing to come and that the believer will receive eternal life.”  (p. 818)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:13-14 (ESV)

Nelson’s commentary on verses 11-13 explains,“The seal or mark of ownership in believers’ lives is the Holy Spirit.” (p. 836)

Here’s my heart, Lord.  I give it to you.   Sometimes I have the tendency to wander from your path.  Please help me stay on your path and guide my steps.  Thank-you for your forgiveness which is fresh every day.

“I Will Rise”

I’d been working on this post for a while, and then last week my cousin passed away after a brief battle with leukemia.  This song has a more special meaning to me now when I think of him and his family.  We are all taking comfort knowing he had a strong faith in Jesus and that he is in a better place now.   I’d like to dedicate it to him.

Chris Tomlin performing “I Will Rise” live in concert.

I hope you enjoy this beautiful song!

Some lyrics from the song:

There’s a peace I’ve come to know

Though my heart and flesh may fail

There’s an anchor for my soul

I can say, it is well

Jesus has overcome

And I will rise when He calls my name

No more sorrow, no more pain

There’s a day that’s drawing near

When this darkness breaks to light

And the shadows disappear

And my faith shall be my eyes

…for we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27 (ESV)

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33 (ESV)

Today I pray that you will rest in God’s peace, the peace that passes understanding, and that remembering “I will rise” gives you comfort.

Hope

I haven’t posted in awhile!  I’ve actually been busy, which is good, mostly.  It’s a blessing to be busy, to have things you want to do and be able to do them.

Today I want to share the song “There Will Be A Day” by Jeremy Camp.  This is an answer to my previous post about tears.  It describes the hope we have, even during times of suffering, perhaps especially important when we’re suffering, of the life to come through Jesus.

This is actually a devotional video of Jeremy Camp speaking about his song.

One of the verses he mentions in the video is Romans 8:18.  I recommend reading the passage Romans 8:15-23 for context.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Romans 8:18 (ESV)

Dear Lord, Please fill us with the hope you give us for the future.  Please help us to trust you, during good times and bad, and to keep in sight the life to come.  Give us your peace.

“Remind me who I am to You”

Today I wanted to share the song “Remind Me Who I Am” by Jason Gray.

He sings,

Tell me once again who I am to You, who I am to You

Tell me lest I forget who I am to You, that I belong to You

…I’m the one You love

That will be enough

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.   So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NLT)

I really needed to hear this song recently. I had been reminded of some past sin, of some things that were a part of my life before I became a Christian.  And it seems like not everyone, including many other Christians, can relate.  So I was feeling alone, and like I used to be a bad person. And you know what, part of me was a bad person before I became a Christian, because we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.  But I have been forgiven, transformed, by Jesus’ blood on the cross. Nothing can change that. I am a new person in Christ and the former things have passed away.

And I am definitely not alone. God was reminding me of these things, perhaps to remind me to be humble, perhaps to remind me what’s really important on my Christian walk, maybe something else entirely, but most importantly…who I am to Him. I belong to Him now.

I love this song and this video.  Don’t miss how the signs in pictures change to ‘beloved’.

Have you been transformed by the blood of Jesus?  Then don’t forget who you are to Him.

“Remind Me Who I Am” by Jason Gray

Are you walking by faith?

…for we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)

Today I wanted to share the song “Walk By Faith” by Jeremy Camp.

He sings

Well I will walk by faith

Even when I cannot see

Have you ever felt that way, that you’re walking along a rocky path, but you can’t see one foot ahead of you?  I’ll admit, actually, I’m feeling like that at times right now.  I’m trying to figure out what steps to take next, and honestly I don’t know what to do sometimes.  The path that I think I want doesn’t seem to be the path God’s leading me on.  But I have to remember that God knows me better than I know myself, and unlike me, He can see in the dark.   Most of all, since Jesus loves me enough to die on the cross for me, I need to trust Him.

God, thank-you for your guidance along this sometimes dark and scary path.  Please protect me from harm and guide my steps.  Thank-you for the gift of faith.

“Walk By Faith”

Has your heart broken down?

“Turn Around” by Matt Maher

Love the lyrics to this song…and it rocks!

Has your heart broken down?  He sings, “Love won’t take away the pain, but don’t be afraid, ’cause it will never walk away.”

God may not take away the difficulties in life, but He will not leave us.  If we call upon Him, He will be there with us through it all.
