Keep On

Have you ever felt like you just didn’t have anything left?  I was feeling like this lately when I heard this song.  It spoke to me in so many different ways!  I realized I’d been putting other things ahead of time with God and what he might be teaching me.  I was also just worn out from some daily struggles and feeling depressed.  This song encouraged me and reminded me to give my worries and sadness to God.  In our own strength, we’re not able.  But Got is able.  I hope in difficult times you remember to draw near to Him.  You are not alone.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

Candle light in the dark

The people who walked in darkness

have seen a great light;

Isaiah 9:2 (ESV)

Light is kind of the theme of my blog, so this is a great challenge for me!

As a follower of Christ, Jesus is the light of my life.  He is the source of light that breaks through the darkness of the world.  The words below from Jesus tell how we, as Christians, should act to demonstrate this light to others.

14You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

but God…

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

Genesis 50:20 NASB

This is Joseph in Egypt talking to his brothers after their father died.  His brothers were afraid Joseph would try to get revenge on them for selling him into slavery many years before. You can read the story of Joseph beginning in Genesis 37 and continuing in chapter 39 to the end in chapter 50.

This is one of my favorite Bible stories because it has given me hope that God can take difficult circumstances and turn them around and use them for good!

Lift up your eyes

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:

Who created all these?

He who brings out the starry host one by one

and calls forth each of them by name.

Because of his great power and mighty strength,

not one of them is missing.

Isaiah 40:26 NIV

Drawing of night sky

I came across this Bible verse recently, and it made me think of the song Your Love Oh Lord by Third Day.  Something about hearing that song gives me peace.  You can listen to the song here:

Some of the lyrics, from Psalm 36:

And I will lift my voice to worship you my king

And I will find my strength in the shadow of your wings

Your Love Oh Lord reaches to the heavens

Your faithfulness stretches to the skies

May you find strength in the shadow of His wings today, and above all the peace that only He can give.

Save Saeed

Video of Naghmeh Abedini speaking about the imprisonment of her husband Saeed Abedini at the UN Human Rights Council.  Saeed Abedini is an American pastor who is imprisoned in Iran for his Christian faith.  Even at this difficult time, she gives a beautiful summary of the gospel.

She says Iran has kept Saeed imprisioned “because Saeed believes in forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ and that whoever accepts this forgiveness of sin can be reconciled to the God of peace and love.  This is the God of peace we are all searching for.”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Color

Cross with flowers

The Lord is near to all who call on him,

to all who call on him in truth.

Psalm 145:18 ESV

I haven’t posted in quite a while! Hope all is well with you.  I took a picture of this cross I sent to a friend as a gift, and when I saw the topic of the Photo Challenge this week was color, this idea for a post came to mind.

It’s a reminder that no matter how alone we seem, God is always near to those who seek Him.

Writing Challenge: Starting Over

The Importance of Prayer

Praying Hands PlaqueWhen I first started this blog about a year ago now, (wow, time flies!) I prayed about it.  I prayed over the blog to be a source of encouragement and peace, and for it to reflect what God would have me say.

At church last Sunday, the sermon was about the importance of prayer.   I realized something I have been neglecting for quite some time is prayer!  I haven’t taken time to pray much, not just about this blog, but in my personal life and for others as well.  And especially, I have forgotten its importance as an act of praise.

Lately I have been thinking about this blog and where it’s going, what it should communicate.  Before Sunday I had already decided that I didn’t want to post stuff just to be posting stuff.  What’s important is that it be in God’s will, what He has called me to do.

So, please join me in praying to be a blessing to others, to help encourage and to share God’s peace.

Beautiful video about adoption

Someone just shared this “I Like Adoption” YouTube  video with me.  Sitting at my computer crying while watching it, I realized I wanted to share it, too.  Hope you find it encouraging today.  Even if adoption doesn’t apply to your life right now, it’s a beautiful demonstration of unconditional love.

Thanks for watching.

Daily Prompt: Quote Me

Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Nelson Mandela

Courage is not a lack of fear.  It is doing something even though you are afraid.   Sometimes we think those who are brave don’t feel fear.  More often, being brave means doing something in spite of the fear.

In other words, do it anyway!

Prayer for today:  Lord, please give us discernment to know those things that are in Your will for us to do.  Please calm our anxious thoughts and give us the courage to do those things You’ve called us to.  In Jesus’ name,  Amen.
