Here’s my heart

Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it; Seal it for Thy courts above.

This is a line from the hymn Come Thou Fount, written by Robert Robinson and adapted by many singers over time.  This version is performed by Jadon Lavik on one my favorite CDs, Roots Run Deep, his first hymns album.  If you haven’t before, check out this CD.  It has lot’s of good traditional hymns and the music is very soothing.  And…I promise I’m not marketing for him :-)

Anyway, here are some lyrics from the song:

Here by Thy great help I’ve come

And I hope by Thy good pleasure

Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger

Wandering from the fold of God

He to rescue me from danger

Interposed His precious blood

Let Thy goodness like a fetter

Bind my wandering heart to Thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it

Prone to leave the God I love

Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it

Seal it for Thy courts above

If you’d like to listen, here’s Come Thou Fount performed by Jadon Lavik:

When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us and testifies that we belong to God.

And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (ESV)

Nelson’s Compact Bible Commentary on the passage explains,  “Sealing indicates ownership and security.  The Holy Spirit is a guarantee, the down payment that there is more spiritual blessing to come and that the believer will receive eternal life.”  (p. 818)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:13-14 (ESV)

Nelson’s commentary on verses 11-13 explains,“The seal or mark of ownership in believers’ lives is the Holy Spirit.” (p. 836)

Here’s my heart, Lord.  I give it to you.   Sometimes I have the tendency to wander from your path.  Please help me stay on your path and guide my steps.  Thank-you for your forgiveness which is fresh every day.
